Welcome to the Better Bone Health™ (BBH) Program: a free educational initiative for older adults who want to learn about how to protect and strengthen their bones.
At this event you will have the chance to:
- Learn about osteoporosis and its risk factors from an expert-led lecture.
- Participate in a facilitated discussion on practical ways to maintain your bone health.
- Learn how to talk to your health care provider about bone health concerns.
Get screened: You may also benefit from getting your bone density checked with a free, rapid, non-invasive and painless screening test.
Help others by participating in important research & earn incentives: The BBH is also part of a unique research study aimed at improving our understanding of how community-based education helps older adults take steps to protect their bone health and seek treatment for osteoporosis, if needed. You can help researchers help build this knowledge if you agree to answer our study surveys before and after the event. Your participation in the surveys is optional but highly encouraged. If you want to learn more, click here. Study participants who complete all the surveys will be eligible for incentives. Find out more at the education session!
Register today: Registration is open to all participants—whether you agree to be part of the study or just attend the lecture. However, if you also wish to get a bone density screening at your event, you need to consent to be part of the study.
We hope you will join us and get started with your own journey towards better bone health and contribute to helping others along the way!
🛑 Stop (for participants in PA and NY only):
If you’ve had a double-knee replacement, this screening test may not give accurate results. Because of this, you won’t be able to be screened at this education session. Please go back to the previous question and choose a different answer.
If you’re in Florida, this does not apply—your screening will be done at the wrist instead.
A professional photographer will be on site to document the event. The photos taken may appear on print or digital outlets such as the NCOA.org website and NCOA’s social media channels in connection with the promotion or publication of the activities of NCOA.
Registration is required for all education session attendees, regardless of participation in the Better Bone Health study.
The purpose of this brief intake survey is to understand your current awareness of bone health and falls risk as well as your sources of health information before attending the bone health lecture. You may decline to answer any or all of the questions.
